How do you describe your customers and prospects, i.e. the market(s) you’re targeting?

  1. Where are they – at home or at work?
  2. Who are they – age, gender, income, education level, industry?
  3. What do they value – price, selection or quality oriented?
  4. How do they spend their time – gardening, physically active, spiritually, traveling, etc.?

How would you describe your competition?

  1. Where are they geographically?
  2. How many?
  3. How do you compare and contrast with them in terms of products / services, promotional activities, pricing, customer service?

What details can you provide about the promotional activities you use daily, weekly and monthly to reach new prospects and to maintain relationships with existing customers?

  1. How much do you spend?
  2. Why do you use the various promotional tools that you do?
  3. How often do you review and analyze your marketing efforts?

Can you answer the following?

  1.  Do your promotional tools state the benefits provided to your target market or do they focus on the features and advantages of your products and services?

  2.  What percentage of your target market is female?

  3.  What percentage of customers leave a business because they are dissatisfied with products, services or the way they’ve been treated?

  4. What is the purpose of a marketing calendar?

  5.  Do you have a customer database?

  6.  As a prospective business or a young business, have you developed a basic marketing plan?
